The Environment is Important to Dr. Ahn

Dr. Ahn’s passion is to combine modern technology and environmental concerns while providing quality dental care. At Princeton smile, we don’t just talk about sustainability, we live it.

Did you know that every year dental offices generate 4.8 million lead foils, 28 million liters of toxic x-ray fixer, 3.7 tons of mercury waste, 1.7 million sterilization pouches, and 680 million chair barriers, light handle covers, and patient bibs?

Most dental offices generate significant waste and pollution, but new green dental concepts and materials allow us to eliminate most of this waste. Our patients often say they are impressed that their dentist is concerned about the environment and the world we all share.

Our office is committed to reducing pollution. We use energy efficient appliances and dental equipment. Our office is professionally inspected to optimize our energy use.

Our cutting-edge digital x-ray and sensor systems do not use any toxic chemicals. Additionally, our sterilization system uses high-powered steam instead of harmful chemical solutions.

We do not use amalgam fillings. If one must be removed, our amalgam separator will filter the mercury-containing material to prevent it from entering the water supply.

Dr. Ahn believes that sustainability is not just about the environment, but a way of thinking, a lifestyle. At Princeton Smile, we are concerned not only about your oral health but also your whole body and mind. We believe in the wellness-based model. There is a direct correlation between your oral health and systemic health. We want to help you to maintain a healthy mind, body, and smile.

Eco Dentistry Association Certified

First GreenDOC Certification in NJ

Princeton Smile is humbled to be the first dental office in New Jersey to be honored with a GreenDOC certification from the Eco Dentistry Association. The Eco Dentistry Association is an international organization promoting eco-friendly and sustainable dental practices. Our goal from the beginning was to create a modern green facility which reduces our environmental footprint and all of our staff members worked diligently to ensure compliance with the strict certification guidelines.

I love dentistry and I love this planet, so having an eco-friendly dental office that I can share with my valued patients is important to me. I believe it is my obligation and responsibility to my community to educate others about the importance of protecting our environment and our resources. I anticipate that your visit to our office will be an educational experience and you will feel safe, healthy, and even a bit pampered. I look forward to providing quality care at an affordable cost, and helping you to maintain a beautiful, healthy smile. (join me on twitter)

EDA Pledge to Sustainability

our commitment to sustainability is shown by this official Eco Dentistry Association member bagde.

As a Member of the Eco Dentistry Association, our office is committed to a dental profession which values both outstanding patient care and outstanding planetary care. We recognize that as dental professionals, we make decisions every day which impact the public’s health, and the health of our Earth. As such, we pledge to consider the environmental impact of our practice in:

  1. Dental processes and materials
  2. Office administration and marketing
  3. Office construction, design and furnishings

Digitally Advanced Office

Our office has been thoroughly planned and constructed to use the most advanced computer system and software. We have made a commitment to become a chartless office to better serve our patients and minimize the use of paper. We use the latest sterilization equipment and protocol to provide the highest level of infection control. We use digital x-ray sensors and high speed cad 6 networking to deliver the images to a 19 inch LCD to be seen by our patients in minutes.

All members of our staff are knowledgeable and fully trained to use the modern technology and software that allow us to better communicate, educate, and provide the best customer service. After the appointment, we can send your treatment plan, x-rays and photos directly to your email.

You can ask any questions by email, text, phone, or online form.

DEXIS Digital X-Ray System

We use the most comprehensive dental software in the industry. Our integrated system of cameras and monitors – the Dexis digital sensor, wireless intra-oral camera, and extra-oral camera – allow us to view different parts of your smile and teeth. Using these high quality images permits the doctors to better diagnose and promote optimal dental care. With comprehensive pictures and x-rays, we can provide necessary documentation to the insurance company.

Digital X-rays are healthier too; the DEXIS system we use exposes patients to 90% less radiation compared to regular x-ray machines.

Patient Forms

Our office utilizes cutting edge technology to bring a chartless office. Patients can complete their patient forms in the comfort of their home through the internet. The system is very safe and follows strict OHIP privacy regulations. When you come in, the doctor will review your medical history and sign the computer chart. Your assistance in completing the forms prior to your appointment will ensure minimal waiting time for you and allow our office to run as efficiently as possible.

Amalgam-Free Office

At Princeton Smile we only use non amalgam restoration material. We are very selective in replacing amalgam unless there is a functional or structural defect in the older amalgam fillings. If necessary, we will carefully remove amalgam under a protective rubber dam and use amalgam traps to protect our water source from becoming contaminated.

Energy Efficiency

  • Our office uses modern electronic florescent lighting (CFL) to help conserve electricity and improve quality of light.
  • Energy Star Certified Appliances are utilized whenever possible.
  • HVAC system professionally checked for efficiency
  • Double-pane windows
